The top students of the Holy Cross Catholic Academy Class of 2014 have been announced by Darla Mueller, associate head of school for operations and instruction at Holy Cross.

Peoria, Ill.—Deacon Matthew Hoelscher, a native of Amarillo, will be ordained to the priesthood Saturday, May 24 by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC during a Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral here.

The Vatican has set the 51st World Day of Prayers for Vocations for May 11, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, commonly known as Good Shepherd Sunday. The theme for this year’s celebration, which falls on Mother’s Day this year, is “Vocations, Witness to the Truth.”

Eleven members of the Catholic Student Center at West Texas A&M University were among the Spring Graduates who participated in Commencement Exercises May 10 at the First United Center.

St. Anthony’s Church will sponsor a West Texas A&M University Brass Choir Concert Sunday, May 4, beginning at 5:00pm at the church, 115 North 25 Mile Ave. Dr. Guglielmo Manfredi will conduct the concert, entitled Suspended Between Gargoyles and Cathedrals.

The third annual Bishop’s Gala took place May 2 at Amarillo Country Club, with more than 200 people in attendance. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the establishment of a Parish Maintenance Fund in the Diocese of Amarillo, according to Kim Richard, Diocesan Director of Development and Stewardship.

For the third year in a row, students at St. Anthony of Padua School gave back to those in need—and for the third year in a row, it was to a Burmese family. Students gathered May 1 to meet A Cha La Par and her two daughters, John Ha Ne and John Esther, to ask questions and to present the family with money and grocery items.
