Deacon Scott Schwind, a seminarian for the Diocese of Amarillo, will be ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek during a Mass Friday, May 24 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington. The 6:30pm Mass is open to the public.
The public is invited to attend as Bishop Patrick J. Zurek presides at an Extended Vigil of Pentecost Service Friday, May 17 at 7:00pm at St. Laurence Church, 2300 North Spring. On Jan. 16, 1988, the Congregation for Divine Worship issued Paschale Solemnitatis, the Circular Letter Concerning the Preparation and Celebration of the Easter Feasts.
All women in the Diocese of Amarillo are invited to attend a Mother’s Day Women’s Prayer Brunch Saturday, May 11 from 10:00am to 11:30am in the Amarillo Club on the 30th floor of the Chase Towers at 600 South Tyler. Mothers are encouraged to bring their daughters, six and older, to the brunch, according to Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ Sister Rita D’Souza.
St. Mary’s Cathedral School captured top honors in the Elementary School Division of the annual Kids Inc. Donor Days Contest, presented by Coffee Memorial Blood Center. The school received a $1,500 VISA Gift Card during a ceremony at the school April 25.
The top students of the Holy Cross Catholic Academy Class of 2013 have been announced by Darla Mueller, associate head of school for operations and instruction at Holy Cross.
Valedictorian is Sarah Wilting and Salutatorian is Maria Elena “Nena” Fierro.
Groundbreaking for the new Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Family Center will take place Friday, May 10 at 6:00pm on the church grounds at 1210 Southeast 11th Street, according to Father Jose Gomez, pastor at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
According to diocesan records, the new building is the first new construction on the Our Lady of Guadalupe campus since the dedication of the current church building on Dec. 12, 1949.
The Catholic Student Center at West Texas A&M University has been named the Outstanding Student Organization not-funded for 2012-2013. The announcement was made April 26 during the annual Honors Banquet.
