Canyon—A new school year is on the horizon at West Texas A&M University, which means a new year of activities will also get underway at the Catholic Student Center at West Texas A&M University, according to Father S. Christopher Schwind, Chaplain/Executive Director at the CSC.
Two events are set for Labor Day weekend. A Freshman Fish Fry and special welcome party for all incoming students will take place Friday, Sept. 2 at 6:00pm. On Sunday, Sept. 4, Mass will be celebrated at 5:30pm, followed by a Welcome Back Party for all students.
The weekly calendar of activities will have several new additions this fall.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be available from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Mondays. There will also be a Free Lunch served at noon. On Thursday evenings at 7:00, it’s the addition of the Rose Garden/Thorn Bush program.
“Rose Garden (women only) and Thorn Bush (men only) are each offered once a month and are community building events for young women and men, respectively,” said Father Schwind. “There is no set agenda; each group decides on a fun activity that appeals to everyone.”
Father Schwind encourages Catholic college students to be a part of the family at the Catholic Student Center.
“The Catholic Student Center is a place for fun, fellowship, free food and sharing your Catholic Faith with your peers,” he said. “The CSC is not only for WT students, but for Amarillo College and Clarendon College students as well. We encourage Clarendon College students to check with St. Mary’s Church for special campus ministry events in Clarendon.”
The Catholic Student Center is located at 2610 4th Ave. in Canyon. Please visit the CSC’s website at www.wtcsc.com to keep up with weekly activities or call Father Schwind or Assistant Director Betty Aragon, at 655-4345.
“The Catholic Student Center strives to build, maintain and share our Faith in the community, one student at a time,” Father Schwind said.
