When the Marriage takes place outside the Diocese of Amarillo
If residents of the Diocese of Amarillo are getting married in another diocese within the United States or outside of the United States, the couple needs to complete the marriage preparation at their home parish. The priest or deacon preparing the couple must send the complete prenuptial file along with the completed Testimonial Letter and Nihil Obstat Form to the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Diocese of Amarillo with the to be transfer to the (Arch)Diocesan offices of the (arch)diocese of the parish that will perform the marriage. This is required so that the parish, where the marriage takes place, is assured that the couple is free to marry and properly prepared for the Sacrament of Matrimony.
The prenuptial file cannot be transferred from parish to parish when the two parishes are located in different dioceses, nor the couple is allowed to hand carry the prenuptial original file to the parish.
If the file needs to be sent overseas or with special delivery, the shipping costs will become the responsibility of the couple who is getting married. In an emergency situation, in addition to sending the file overseas, the couple may hand carry a “photocopy” of their prenuptial file, if desired address to the Pastor of the place where the wedding will take place.
If the wedding is taking place within the United States, the prenuptial file should be submitted desirability to this Tribunal with a minimum of four weeks prior to the wedding. If the wedding is taking place outside the United States, the prenuptial file should be submitted with a minimum of six to eight weeks to ensure the timely delivery of the materials to the diocese where the wedding will take place.
